What is ESOF?

ESOF (EuroScience Open Forum) is the largest interdisciplinary science meeting in Europe. It is dedicated to scientific research and innovation and offers a unique framework for interaction and debate for scientists, innovators, policy makers, business people and the general public.

What is the theme of ESOF 2018?

The ESOF 2018 theme is ʺSharing Science: Towards New Horizonsʺ. Sharing Science is a key factor of progress, innovation and dialogue with the society.

What kind of science will ESOF 2018 look to highlight?

ESOF is an interdisciplinary forum, which seeks to showcase the full spectrum of scientific breakthroughs from a broad range of disciplines, including human sciences, as well as science in culture and poetry.

How many participants will attend the forum?

The last editions have seen between 3 500 and 4 500 participants.

Where will the ESOF 2018 be held?

Several geographically close locations are planned: Pierre Baudis Congress Centre, Université Toulouse Capitole, the Palais des Sports. The Science in the City festival will take place in various parts of the city, including the Quai des Savoirs, the Muséum, the Cité de l'espace (non-exhaustive list).

What is the official language of the forum?

The sessions will be held in English. Some of them will be proposed in two languages (English and French), as well as the events of the Science in the City festival.

How to propose a session for ESOF 2018?

The sessions can be proposed for all ESOF facets (Science, Science Policy, Science to Business, Media and Science Communication, Careers). A call for scientific sessions will be launched in January 2017. Any interested person or organisation can propose a session that must meet the ESOF criteria: European representation, high scientific level, interdisciplinarity, balance between men and women. The submission process will be managed via an electronic platform and the evaluation will take place between June and October 2017. A special procedure will be established in 2017 for the activities proposed in the framework of the “Science in the City” festival.

How to get involved in the ESOF 2018 preparation?

Numerous options are possible: disseminate information about ESOF; propose sessions for the ESOF 2018 programme starting January 2017; propose events for labelling or satellite events; propose renowned scientists susceptible to be invited; propose ideas for the “Science in the City” festival; propose collaboration with schools and colleges; propose potential exhibitors for ESOF 2018 (institutions, companies, publishers); help us find partners and sponsors; propose potential volunteers.

How to finance activities in the framework of ESOF 2018?

The session submission commits the organiser to ensure that participation of the speakers are financed outside the ESOF budget for travel and hotel expenses. ESOF 2018 session organisation or participation in the forum are eligible expenditure under the H2020 program or other sources of European funding for research dissemination. Standard equipment and conference rooms will be provided.

How to register for ESOF 2018?

The registration will open in January 2018 on the ESOF 2018 website.

How much will the registration cost?

The decision will be made in 2017. Different levels of registration fees will be proposed according to the categories of participants.
