The first edition of ESOF (Euroscience Open Forum) took place in the largest Scandinavian conference centre based in Stockholm, Sweden.

During four enriching days, between the 25^th and the 28^th of August 2004, more than 1800 participants turned up to this biennial interdisciplinary forum.

Participants enjoyed two big exhibition halls in which they met many famous companies such as Nature, a scientific publication, EADS an aerospace company, the European Commission and many other attractive actors in various scientific fields.

Participants had the choice between a large selection of themes that were included in the scientific conference. From the human brain to emerging technologies, fascinating topics were analysed and up to date questions were asked and sometimes answered.

People also had the chance to participate in events included in the Career Programme, the Science in the City Programme and in Satellite events. Participants had fun with the Prof’mobile which among other things gave outside lectures. They also had the opportunity to attend two great social events which were the President’s reception on the 25^th of August and the reception at the Stockholm City Hall on the 27^th of August that was completely free for ESOF registered participants. To close the event and transfer the ESOF passion to the next organizing city, a transfer ceremony took place between Stockholm and Munich.

Many facilities were present to help everyone learn and have fun. Internet was accessible, areas to relax were available, volunteers were ready to answer anyone’s questions and there was much more to discover than just the conference itself throughout Stockholm.

Indeed, the city centre was two steps away from the conference centre and offered its transports, entertainement, lodging and more. Stockholm was really the perfect place to welcome the first edition of ESOF.
