STEFANO FANTONI

Biography

Stefano Fantoni is a known physicist and nuclear astrophysicist. In July 2007 he has been awarded The Feenberg Medal for his contribution to Nuclear Physics and for the development of the Fermi Hyper Netted Chain Theory. Passionate advocate of the need for greater dialogue between science and society, founder of the first Italian Master in Science Communication, SISSA (Trieste, Italy) he has been engaged in several outreach and research activities in this field, receiving the Kalinga prize from UNESCO in 2001. Other prizes: Piazzano Prize in 2002, 2004 Pirelli International Prize, 2005 Capo d’Orlando Prize, Award 2008, Silver Rose Award 2010 Barcola city of Trieste. He has been the Director of SISSA from 2004 to 2010, President of the National Agency for the evaluation of the Universities and the Research Institutes (ANVUR) from 2011 to 2016 and President of FIT from 2008 to 2011 and from 2016 since now.

Maja is chiefly responsible for the strategic planning, development and delivery of the complete ESOF 2020 event. She coordinates the activities of all the teams involved in the project and directly reports to the Champion Stefano Fantoni.

Biography

Event Project Manager and head of Marketing and Fundraising department for ESOF2020, she is a CMM Certified Meeting Professional and Meeting Manager with over 20 years of experience in event planning and management. She has worked as Project Manager and national coordinator for Unicredit 4 Tourism within the Country Development Department of Unicredit Bank, and as Director in Charge of the reform process of the Consorzio Promotrieste for the promotion of tourism and meetings of Trieste into a DMO. Previously she has been the Managing Director of the Convention Bureau of Sicily, the only regional Convention Bureau in Italy, for which she managed the start up phase and subsequently developed a marketing strategy in event management that generated over 105 million Euros. She has also collaborated with European ROI Institute in evaluating and managing events for large corporations. She teaches event management and marketing through events in Italy and abroad. She published several articles, and works as external consultant for Howarth HTL Italy branch in the meeting industry sector.

BRUNO DELLA VEDOVA

Bruno is chiefly responsible for the planning, development and delivery of the complete scientific programme for ESOF 2020 and for the proESOF project

Biography

Bruno Della Vedova is an experienced geologist and geophysicist on characterization, modelling and interpretation of active processes in deformation areas of the Mediterranean Sea, Southern Oceans and Peri-Antarctic margins, with emphasis on thermal processes, heat flow measurements and geothermal potential assessment. He contributed to the heat flow map of Italy and adjacent marine areas and to the heat flow map of Europe. He was responsible for the geophysical exploration and the wells supervision for direct use geothermal applications such as the Grado (GO) geothermal district heating pilot doublet down to 1200 m and for the Pontebba Ice Rink Stadium geothermal heating and cooling open loop system. Vice President of the Fondazione Internazionale Trieste (FIT) since 2014 and member of the board of directors of the International Geothermal Association 2013-2019 and of the Unione Geotermica Italiana. Associate professor of Applied Geophysics at Trieste University till the end of 2016. 

LUCA BARDINI

Luca supports the Programme Coordinator and the Programme Committee to develop the scientific programme for ESOF2020.

Biography

Luca Bardini holds a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Bologna. He has worked in a variety of settings, from academia to the private sector, in a wide range or roles. Thriving in multidisciplinary environments, he is mostly driven by curiosity. He is fluent in English and German and he has a basic knowledge of Finnish.

CRISTINA FAVENTO

Cristina coordinates the proESOF activities and events toward ESOF2020.

Biography

Cristina Favento has a Degree in Communication Science and Journalism and a Master Degree on Environmental Science, Human Resources.

She also cooperates in different EU and Mediterranean projects as lecturer, local coordinator and consultant in communication and tourism.

RYTIS PAŠKAUSKAS

Rytis supports the Programme Coordinator and the Programme Committee to develop the scientific programme for ESOF2020.

Biography

Rytis Paškauskas holds a Ph.D in Physics from Georgia Institute of  Technology. He held research positions at CNR, CNRS, NiTheP and Sincrotrone Trieste, and has published his research in ISI-rated journals. A  Lithuanian national, he now lives in Trieste with his family. Preferring to work on original projects, he joined the ESOF 2020 Trieste where he hopes to contribute with his cultural and technical resources.

He speaks fluently several European languages.

NICO PITRELLI

Communication Manager

Nico leads on the co-ordination and delivery of the communications activity to promote ESOF2020 Trieste.

Biography

Science writer, science communication trainer and science events organizer, he has a PhD and is the Head of Communication and Media Relations Unit at SISSA, International School for Advanced Studies, Trieste. He is also the co-director of the “Franco Prattico” Master’s course in Science Communication in the same institution and media consultant for the “Abdus Salam” International Centre of Theoretical Physics – ICTP, Trieste. He has acted as editor in chief of JCOM, Journal of Science Communication from 2009 to 2013. In 2007 and 2008 Nico has served as Deputy Director of FEST, Fiera Internazionale dell’Editoria Scientifica, Trieste (International Science Media Fair). He is author and coauthor of four books, national and international publications about different topics related to science, society and communication. His research interests cover the following areas: education and training in science communication for science communication professionals and scientists; science and media; roles of non-experts in knowledge production. Nico has also contributed as a science writer for different Italian newspapers and magazines.

Biography

Leo Brattoli is a journalist. He works at AREA Science Park as Press Office Manager. He took care of research and technology international events. He was Press Office Manager and Communication Manager of FEST, Fiera Internazionale dell’Editoria scientifica di Trieste. He worked at European Commission General Direction. He teaches Comunicazione Istituzionale at Science Communication Master - Sissa (Trieste).

MARINA D’ALESSANDRO

Biografia

Marina D’Alessandro is currently part of SISSA – Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati Media Relations and Communications Unit and ESOF2020 Trieste Communications Unit. After a Master's degree in Science Communication "Franco Prattico" at SISSA, she has started working in informal learning and corporate communication. She was the editorial coordinator of the scientific supplement "SGULP! Giocando si impara" and part of the communication group in charge of drafting the Milan Chart for EXPO Milano 2015.

Giorgio is responsible for executing the creative brand vision for ESOF2020 Trieste

Biography

Giorgio Glavina has a degree in Mechanical engineering at the Università di Trieste. In 1993, he founded the advertising agency Sintesi/hub in Trieste. With more than 25 years as CEO/account Director of Sintesi/hub, he provides commercial direction on all projects and executive oversight on all agency operations, in particular brand identity projects for national and international customers.

Biography

Sara Moraca is a science journalist, she writes for Corriere della Sera, La Stampa, Wired Italy, National geographic among others. She studied science communication at Sissa, in Trieste. Her journalistic work was awarded by UGIS (Union of Italian Scientific Journalists) and by LICE (Italian league against epilepsy). In September 2018, she was selected for a fellowship organized by KSJ MIT and the Kavli Foundation. She is part of the ESOF communication team and she collaborates with the Polytechnic of Milan for the dissemination of scientific projects.

Alessandro is the webmaster of the ESOF website and in charge of ESOF social media platforms.
Biography

Alessandro is a science writer and communicator. He has a degree in biology from the University of Milan and he's currently finishing up the Master in Science communication “Franco Prattico” at SISSA in Trieste. He has written for Vice, Motherboard and Wired Italy, among others. He also works as content manager and writer for Fondazione Telethon and as Social Media Manager for Mantova Food & Science Festival.

Biography

Donato Ramani has a degree in Biology and a Master in Science  Communication. Since 2003 he has been collaborating with several Italian newspapers and magazines as a science writer. Right now, he is in the staff of SISSA's Communication Unit and Press Office.

Biography

Chiara Saviane is currently Communication Officer at SISSA, Trieste. Event organizer and trainer in science communication, she has been managing for several years SISSA professional Master’s course in Science Communication “Franco Prattico”. She has also been involved in the preparation and management of several European projects. Chiara is among the organizers of the Brain Awareness Week, Pint of Science, Scienza e Virgola and other outreach events. She has previously done several years of research in neuroscience in Italy and UK and has worked as Science Programme Officer at the Wellcome Trust in London.

PAOLA RODARI

“Science In The City” Programme Manager

Paola is responsible for overseeing the delivery of all aspects the Science in the City Festival.

Biography

Project manager for international projects and consultant for the development of new museums and science centres, Paola Rodari worked for 10 years as the Head of the Education Department of the Laboratorio dell’Immaginario Scientifico science centre (Trieste, Italy), of which she was among the founders. She has been project leader for the development of many permanent and temporary galleries, among which Infini.to Museum of Astronomy and Planetarium of Torino (Italy), the 10Lab science centre of the Technological Park of Sardinia, of which is Chief Scientific Advisor and the Thematic Human Interface and Explainers group of Ecsite (the European network of science museums and science centres). She is the author of several papers and books on the communication of science.Paola is project manager for international projects on the public engagement in STEM and consultant for the development of new museums and science centres. She worked for Sissa Medialab (the in house company of the SISSA University), for the University of Trieste as Coordinator of the Eureka Centre for the research in Science Education, and for the Laboratorio dell’Immaginario Scientifico science centre (Trieste, Italy) as one of the founders and later Head of the Education Department. Biography

Anna Lisa Cesaro holds a MA in Art Perception and a PhD in Experimental Psychology. She has worked for a number of years in publishing, and later developed her professional expertise in the area of cultural projects, and in the organisation of workshops and conferences often in multi-lingual and multi-cultural contexts. She has also worked in the administration of cultural services for local government in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region including libraries, museums, and cultural events.

 

Giulia Riosa

Biography

Giulia Riosa has a degree in Architecture at the University of Trieste and a Master Degree in Tourism Economy at the Bocconi University of Milan with highest honors. She did also attend some courses on social media and event organization. She has a strong interest in management of tourism destinations and in cultural events.

Elisabetta leads on the coordination of all the Secretary General and Network Manager activities.

Biography

With a degree in Diplomacy (summa cum laude) she attended the Academy of International Law at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the italian Course for diplomatic career by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ecole Nationale Administration (ENA) in Paris and she has a Ph.D in International policy. She has been working for the Council of Europe for ten years, organizing the Unidem Campus seminars, for 1.200 civil servants of the ministries of the eastern european countries as: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Russian Federation, Georgia, Kirghistan, Republic of Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Ucraina, Uzbekistan. The Unidem Campus was a “training for trainers” and it did involve up to 10.000 civil servants. She has been a lecturer at the International University Institute for European Studies for several years and she made a research for the Italian Council of Ministers, concerning the enlargement of the European Union. She published some books concerning the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and on the Role of the international organizations in the eastern European countries.

CATERINA GIANNINI

Caterina supports the Secretary General and Network Manager on all the activities concerning the Steering Committee and the Programme Committee meetings, the institutional and international relations and the development of a permanent network.

Biography

Caterina Giannini has a degree in Public Relations at the University of Udine (Italy, 2015) and in Economy and Management of Arts and Cultural Activities at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice with highest honors. She worked for the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi (Artistic Department), one of the most important music institution in Italy. She collaborates with the Chamber Music Association, as Artistic Assistant. In 2015 she has also graduated in Violin at the "Giuseppe Tartini" Music Conservatory of Trieste and she has collaborated with several orchestras in Italy and abroad. She has a strong interest in the marketing and the project management of cultural events.

Biography

Tax specialist, certified accountant and auditor, he graduated in Economics and Business Administration at the University of Trieste where he still practices both with the private and the public sector. In the past he served as Board member of Friulia S.p.A. and MIB Schoool of management, where he was also auditor. He was President at Finfidi S.p.A., President at Società Gestione Immobili FVG S.p.A. and Managing Director at Sincrotrone S.p.A. under the presidency of the Nobel Prize Carlo Rubbia.

BERNARDO GASPARINI

Biography

Chartered Certified Accountant and Statutory Auditor. Graduated in “Economia e Commercio” (Economics and Business Administration) at the University of Trieste. He deals with corporate and tax consulting to individuals and small and medium businesses. Partner of “Studio Viani Professional Association”. He attended specialization courses in company valuation (S.A.F. Padua) and tax laws (I.P.S.O.A. school, Milan).

Biography

Fabio Fratnik graduated as a technical engineer. He worked as a technical consultant for research institutes such as the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). From 2006 to 2015 he was member of the board at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) and since 2008 he works in the Trieste International Foundation (FIT).

Biography

Ariella Kranjec works in the Administrative Department of the International Foundation of Trieste for the progress and freedom of science (FIT)  and she is the Personal Assistant to the President, Prof. Stefano Fantoni. She deals with the organisation of the boards of directors, executive committees and executive meetings, and she relates with the local, national and international institutions. She collaborates with the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). She has a Diploma of the "Grazia Deledda" Institute of scientific and technical studies specialized in biological and health sectors.
