Tuesday 1 September

ICGEB - Science & the City Young

Saipem - Visit to the Offset Installation Equipment

INFN - Press Tour “Cyborn – The dawn of an artificial world”

Come to meet Abdool Karim, a professor at both the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and Columbia University (U.S.), and one of the 100 most influential African personalities, according to Jeune Afrique. Abdool Karim is the Director of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA). He can comment on the impact of COVID in Africa.

WWF and OGS - Science aperitif: Restoring the Sea

WWF - Miramare Marine Reserve and the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS invite you to a "medical check with aperitif" of the Gulf of Trieste. Experts from the two organisations, in collaboration with the University of Trieste, will explain how climate change and human activities impact on the Gulf's health, describing the importance of activities such as monitoring, restoration and biodiversity protection. PRESS POINT SISSA | September 4, 11:45-12:30 CEST

Come and meet our director Stefano Ruffo and other SISSA researchers and find out the latest discoveries of our School. Together with Guido Sanguinetti, Nicoletta Krachmalnicoff, Michele Fornaciai e Gianluigi Rozza we will talk about how using statistical and epidemiological models can help with the tracking of COVID cases in FVG; the science goals of the Simons Observatory located in Chile; time perception in our brain brain and how complex mathematical research can improve medicine, climatology and even sports!

OWSD - Interview's Corner

The Organization of Women in Science for the Developing Countries - OWSD  is proud to introduce Dr. Uduak Okomo. Okomo is a Clinical Research Fellow in Maternal and Newborn Health with the "MRC Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine". She will share her over 20 years experience in paediatrics and child health in West Africa, including child survival, malnutrition, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in infants and children. Topics include neonatal and maternal health, how these have been impacted by COVID-19 and/or other pandemics and translating research findings into public policy.

Are you interested in a guided tour in the complex world of molecular medicine and genetic engineering? ICGEB will let you join. ICGEB's Scientific Coordinator Vittorio Venturi, head of the Bacteriology Group, will serve as host and give you an overview about the Centre and its labs in Italy, India, and South Africa. A visit to some of its labs will follow. This event has a maximum of 16 people, with 4 breakout groups.

IAP - Interview's Corner

The InterAcademyPartnership  -  the global network of science, engineering & medical academies - offers the chance to interview Prof. Wafa Skalli from Morocco. Skalli is a mechanical engineer based in Paris, focused on translational research in clinical biomechanics, orthopaedy and musculoskeletal modelling. She is also active on the social side, promoting the access of rural girls to secondary school and to scientific graduate studies. Her efforts along with the "Relais Instruction education Maroc", where she is the founding president, have led to quasi-generalization of preschools, with more than 2,700 children becoming beneficiaries. Participation is limited to 10.
