ESOF2020 will be a unique and extraordinary event for the city of Trieste, for the macro Adriatic region, for Europe and not only: we have been working on the event for almost three years now with the help of many … thank you everyone!

In five days, from 5th to 9th July 2020, we will have 170 scheduled sessions lasting on average 90 minutes, with over 850 speakers, extremely high-level plenary sessions and with prestigious guests, special events and discussions for over 4000 participants expected from all over the world. Sustainability and innovation will be the key themes and the guide for the three tracks of the ESOF programme, centred for two thirds on the themes that are currently of most interest tied to Science and its ability to provide answers to the main challenges of our times.

The second highly interesting theme of the Forum will be dedicated to the theme “Science to Business”, aiming to foster interaction between the world of research and business, between public and private sectors. An important part of this will be the three days organised by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission during which experts in technological transfer will offer their expertise in evaluating innovative business ideas deriving from research. Finally, but not less relevant, is the sector dedicated to Careers, with in-depth discussion and opportunities dedicated to researchers and representatives from the world of industry, amongst which “Blue skills” tied to the marine economy.

The goal of ESOF 2020’s scientific programme – but also that of the parallel Science in the City Festival taking place from 27th June to 11th July – is to stimulate a lively discussion and debate at all levels on how innovation should be the locomotive in all fields for a sustainable and responsible development that is coherent with the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

In particular, the scientific programme will discuss what needs to be put in place for a green transition; the Business programme will discuss how scientific innovation can be made more efficient and coherent; the Careers programme will show us which social changes and opportunities, and jobs are generated by scientific and technological progress.

The discussion on the crucial role of Science, Technology and Innovation in the energetic and ecological transition and in the labour market awaiting us will be animated by the European Commission, the Universities, Research Institutes, Industries, Start-ups, Policy Makers, Journalists, Associations, and Citizens.

We look forward to seeing you at ESOF 2020 Trieste, it would be a pity to miss out on this opportunity!
