An highly distinguished scientist in the field of RNA biology, Iain Mattaj, the director of the Human Technopole is the first announced keynote speaker for ESOF2020.
Before becoming the director of the Human Technopole project in Milan, Iain Mattaj was general manager of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. In his work, particular emphasis has been given to the knowledge of the mechanisms by which RNA (one of the three main macromolecules essential for life) and proteins are transported from the cell nucleus to the cytoplasm. His results allowed him to conquer the prestigious direction of the new Italian research center, having already held the presidency of the RNA Society and received important awards, including the the Louis-Jeantet award for medicine and recently of being elected associate of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States.
