Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia and MIT: enhancing excellence in science and technology transfer

September 5, 2020 4:15 - 5:45

Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia supported a 3 year programme call for projects between Universities of Friuli Venezia Giulia (SISSA, Trieste, Udine) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in USA. The programme is selecting joint projects and granting them with a seed fund ($25000 max per project) to start new collaborations. The grant supports exchange of researchers and young scientists to start building more and more structured projects and collaborations. In the calls 2017 and 2018 13 projects have been funded and other projects are expected in 2019 with a new call.
At MIT the coordination of the initiative has been carroed out by MISTI: MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives. In the Region SISSA is acting as coordinator, supported by Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia. We would like to present the joint projets and their impact during ESOF events in Treiste. We invite granted PIs to show the results of the joint reserach activities. Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia is the region with the highest percentage of researchers among population and it is the first region in Italy for initiatives related with innovation. The alliance with MIT is crucial to keep high standard of scientific collaboration all over the world. The selected theme is breaking frontiers in science and knowlegde. The topics of the projects are very wide: from theoretical physics to naval engineering, from mathematical analysis to machine learning, from theoretical mechanics to numerical simulation with several potential applications in industry and medicine, for example.
