Dr Richard Elwes is a mathematician at University of Leeds and the author of five popular science books, including Maths 1001 and Chaotic Fishponds & Mirror Universes. His own research is in mathematical logic, random processes, and related areas. As a teacher, he lectures on a range of subjects including Logic and History of Mathematics. Evangelical about the beauty and importance of maths, he gives regular public talks and masterclasses on a variety of topics, as well as writing online and in the press, including feature-articles for New Scientist magazine.
