Mariya Lyubenova

Dr. Mariya Lyubenova is a researcher who thrives at the intersection of fields, disciplines, and sectors in society. She passionately believes that open communication in a nurturing atmosphere is of paramount importance for the successful transfer and advancement of knowledge. She holds a MSc in Physics from Sofia University in Bulgaria and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Munich, Germany. She currently works at the foremost intergovernmental organisation in astronomy, the European Southern Observatory (ESO), where she is head of Media Relations, science advisor to the Department of Communication, editor of ESO’s science & technology journal The Messenger, and an active researcher in the area of galaxy evolution, black holes, and globular clusters. Aside from being invested in research and science communication, Mariya enjoys mentoring women and gender minorities interested in pursuing a career in STEM. Her professional expertise, complemented by volunteering for social causes, enables her to successfully share her knowledge with people coming from various backgrounds.

Mariya Lyubenova will be present at the conference : “Searching For Life Beyond Earth — The Whys And Hows Of Our Quest For Life In The Universe” on saturday the 16th of July from 14:15 to 15:30
