ESOF2022, July 13-16

We’re explorers, lured by the promise of space beyond our Earth. Imagine that we have just landed on Mars – what technology and science has taken us there and what do we need to survive and thrive? Who are the Europeans supporting exploration of our Solar System and how can we all join in the adventure? Visit our stand at ESOF2022 to find out more about what’s happening in planetary exploration and how you can get involved.

The Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure supports planetary science by providing free access to facilities, field sites, virtual tools and services, and activities to support the community. At ESOF2022, we are partnering with another EU-funded project, EXPLORE, which is deploying artificial intelligence and visual analytics to fully exploit the vast amounts of scientific data sent back by space missions.

Does life exist elsewhere in the Solar System? Can humans establish a base on another planet? With international space agencies making ambitious plans for exploring the Moon and Mars in the next decade, answers to these fundamental questions may soon be in reach.

These projects have received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871149 (Europlanet 2024 RI) and No 101004214 (EXPLORE).

ESOF IN A NUTSHELL

ESOF – EuroScience Open Forum – founded in 2004 by EuroScience, the European Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology; is the biennial pan-European convention dedicated to research and innovation.

At ESOF, leading scientists, researchers, young researchers, business people, entrepreneurs and innovators, policy makers, science and technology communicators and the general public from all over Europe discuss new discoveries and debate the direction that research is taking in the sciences, humanities and social sciences.

This project is co-funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe Work Programme – project European City of Science and EuroScience Open Forum Leiden 2022 (Project number 101052247) and is coordinated by Stichting Leiden European City of Science 2022 (Leiden2022).
